About Me
Who am I?
My name is Dallas Holston. I am 19 years of age, and I am from Stephenville, TX. I am the youngest of three siblings, and have two loving Sisters, and extremely supportive Parents! Currently, I am attending Tarleton State University, and am Majoring in Music Education. I hope to someday be a Band Director. I have a huge passion for music and the power it can have to unite individuals across genders, race, nationality, and beyond.
What's my story?
Throughout my life I have been blessed with supportive parents who have raised me up in the church with strong Christian morals and ideals. As I was growing up my Father, who plays guitar and piano, would play in church on Sunday mornings for worship. From a young age I was exposed to the wonder's of music. As my siblings and I grew older, both of my parents were very supportive of us joining band in Junior High.
When I started band in the 7th grade I began to learn how to play the Euphonium. I was a quick learner, and by the spring semester of 8th grade I became a part of the varsity band at our Junior High. Also in 7th grade I began to learn how to play the drumset. I began to play the drumset regularly at my church in 8th grade.
Another Instrument that I picked up in Junior High was the guitar. In the summer between 7th and 8th grade, I went on a mission trip with a church in Stephenville, and it was on this trip that I had gotten the inspiration to want to start playing guitar. I knew that my Father had been playing for years, so when I got home I asked him to show me a few basic chords, and ran off with it. I picked up guitar the fastest out of all the instruments I've learned.
As I began High School I joined the Men's choir. I was a part of that ensemble as well as the Varsity Mixed Choir for all four years of High School. I credit John Tucker, my choir director at the time, as the individual that inspired me to become a Music Educator. He has a real passion for teaching, and a great passion for what God has for him in his life.
It was in this time I spent in choir that I was able to really find my voice, and was able to find who I was as a person. It was also during my Freshman year that I had begun to learn how to play the piano. I mostly taught myself how to play the piano by ear, and again, picked it up fairly quickly.
My Junior year of High School my band director persuaded me to try out for the Jazz band. I played Valve Trombone for a total of 2 weeks, when I decided I needed to pick up the actual instrument. It was then that I started taking private lessons for Trombone, and by my Senior year, I had completely dropped the Euphonium and was solely playing Trombone in Jazz band and in the Varsity wind ensemble.
And that now brings us to the present. All of the experiences listed above are what have shaped me into the musician that I am today. I wouldn't be half the musician I am today if it weren't for my family, friends, private instructors, and directors that I have studied under.
